Flipping over

Dominic is now a week over four months. He has not been able to flip over by himself yet. But we've been practising! It started off giving him a helping push on the back so that he would slowly turn over. Now, all it takes is to hold his hands and turn them to the side, his body would follow, and all that is left is for him to figure out how to sway his legs accordingly to the side, and give a few kicks, so that the flip is complete!

I realise a little action that we do so easily like flipping over actually takes learning by a baby. Something that we do without a thought actually can be broken into little steps and practised till it is learnt.

I'm quite confident that Dominic will soon be able to master flipping from back to front. We just have to find more ways to motivate him to WANT to flip over. He is sufficiently entertained and played with while lying on his back. The tricky bit, I think, would be learning how to flip from tummy to back. It seems like a bigger effort is needed, and this mummy can't figure out where to start turning from - top or legs first??
